WEA Updates | Communication & Civility

Oct 1
2 min read

Welcome to October! We hope that you had a wonderful start to the school year and getting to know your new students.

WEA Update #1

Our first update is that all communication from the WEA will be sent to members’ personal email addresses. If we do not have an updated personal email address on file for you, you will receive a notice at your Wilton Public Schools work email asking you to provide your current personal email address. If you do not complete the form as requested, you will not receive future notices from the WEA.

It is important that the WEA maintain communication through members’ personal email addresses rather than Wilton Public Schools email accounts, as the WEA is a separate entity from the school district. Moving forward, we encourage members to discuss union-related issues in person whenever possible. When an in-person conversation is not possible, we ask that members use their personal email accounts when communicating in writing with WEA officers and building representatives regarding union matters. Please be mindful that the district has access to communications conducted through district email accounts. WEA officers’ email addresses are available on the WEA website for members who need to contact them.

WEA Update #2

Our second update concerns the Wilton Board of Education Civility Policy (Policy 1316.2, updated October 2019). This policy applies to all stakeholders, including students, parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other members of the school community. We encourage all members to familiarize themselves with the policy and refer to it when necessary, particularly if you receive correspondence or participate in a conversation that you believe may not align with the expectations outlined in the policy.

New teachers: If you encounter an issue or situation where you need support, guidance, or simply want to talk through your concerns, please reach out to your WEA Building Officer. We are here to support you and help you navigate challenging situations. Just a reminder to the entire membership that there is a WEA officer in every building, so please do not hesitate to reach out when you need assistance of any kind.
